“Thoughts On Abortion from Psalm 139”
Scripture: Psalm 139:13–18
In the past 50 years, over 64 million babies have been aborted here in the United States. Every day an estimated 2,350 children die as a result of abortion in our nation. According to the World Health Organization, the Guttmacher Institute, and Worldometer, an estimated 73 million induced abortions occur worldwide each year. That number is based on global health data examining women aged 15–49.
The primary reason for the abortions according to those organizations is unintended pregnancies, meaning the women getting the abortion are doing so because they don’t want the baby. This means abortion is the leading global cause of death with 73 million unborn lives lost, approximately 200,000 a day.
We know in terms of the development of a child that at the moment of conception the child’s DNA is set. Biologically, at the moment of conception there is a distinct living human being who has everything they need to develop.

Why the Life of an Unborn Child Is Sacred
Every unborn child is created by God in His image
Psalm 139:13–14, Genesis 1:27
Moral Implications
-

Psalm Genesis 9:6 -
Abortion silences praises due to God.
PLACE FOR NOTES:
Why the Life of an Unborn Child Is Sacred
In every unborn child, God plans a life
Psalm 139:15–16
Moral Implications
-
If ordaining the days of life is God’s “right”, it cannot also be a parent’s “right” over the child’s life.
-
To abort a child because someone determines that its quality of life will be impaired by a handicap or the situation it will be born into shows a misunderstanding of what brings quality to life.

Psalm 139:17–18

A Pastoral Word
-
There is sin and damage in abortion, but there is no sin God cannot forgive.
-
There is solid biblical evidence to say that by the grace of God, children who have had their lives taken prematurely are safe in the arms of God.
2 Samuel 12:21–23

Action Steps
• Pray for all in need of God’s forgiveness and healing.
• Pray for our nation and world. Pray that more and more people would come to know the truths we have heard from God’s Word this morning and that life would be valued more.
• Pray for families who can’t have children and that God would open opportunities for unborn babies to be adopted rather than aborted.
• Speak with grace and truth when opportunities occur to have conversations with others.
• Help with Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic if God leads you to do so.
